What is a PEDR? |
A PEDR (Professional Experience and Development Record) is essentially a collection of records outlining your experience during the Stage One and Stage Two Practical Experiences (post-Part 1 and Part 2 respectively). Experiences both in and outside of the workplace can be recorded, if they are relevant to your architectural development. The PEDR sheets are a critical element of the Part 3 criteria, with many examiners reading them thoroughly. Examiners can, and often will, ask you questions from information you document in your PEDR sheets.

How do I complete my PEDR sheet? |
Your experience is logged and printed quarterly via the RIBA PEDR website (a £35 per year charging website, designed by someone who clearly doesn't believe in good design), including a 'Reflective Experience Summary', a Student/Mentor appraisal, and comments from your PSA.
Your PSA (Professional Studies Advisor) can be a staff member at any university (most people use their own universities PSA) or someone via RIBA North West. Most students are informed of who the PSA is at their university, but sometimes you need to ask around or follow the RIBA North West Route. The PSA signing service costs £240 a year (£48-60 a sheet!). When you start your Part 3 course, you can have your Stage Two practical experience PEDR sheets signed by the PSA at your new university. There is not usually a cost associated with this. Your PEDR sheets will be submitted as part of your Part 3 application, and are used as evidence that you have met the criteria. If your work experience has not been relevant or varied enough, it can be rejected at Part 3 Interview, so try and keep the criteria in mind during your Student/Mentor appraisals and when speaking to your PSA. Your PEDR sheets will contain information about the practices you have worked at, the details of the projects, the tasks you have completed on each project, any additional work you have undertaken (such as marketing, admin, managerial etc.) and any events or CPDs you have attended.
